    Hey everyone - I need some help thinking this out.

    Last season I went to the strip with largely a stock set up other than the usual CIA and exhaust. I was able to run pretty consistent 15.7s & 15.8s with 2.3 60ft times on junk tires and having to roll into the throttle slowly at launch to have any hope of not spinning the one tire on 3.08 gears.

    Fast forward to this year and I've now replaced the stock LCAs to the poly/tubular UMI arms, installed a UMI torque arm with the forward mount on the cross member vs. the trans and had an Eaton 3 series with 3.73 gears installed. Add to that new wheels, 15x4 skinnies and 15x8 rears with MT ET streets. I've shaved off weight by removing the seats, adding a fiberglass hood and a 1 piece aluminum driveshaft.

    Slap all that on, I go out yesterday and on my best run of the day run a 15.71 with a 2.27 60ft time. With DA and weather being fairly similar. I ran my ET Streets as high as 30psi and as low as 20. No slipping that I could tell at either end of the PSI range.

    What the hell isn't working here guys. I should be much quicker than that right? Some considerations Ive been contemplating are 1) I'm on stock shocks & springs 2) I'm not 100% sure my pinion angle is -2 (there's no vibration but it could be at 0 or -1) and 3) the bushings at the front of the torque arm are a piviot point and to be torqued to like 40 ft/lbs. Well there's no way in hell to get a torque wrench in there so I guess at it. Which is a possibility.

    What do you think? Here is my best run of the day:

    Are you a M5 or A4?

      3.23's to 4.10's, I saw less than .2 change in times. I now have 3.42's.

      Also, 2.2 must be a very light launch for radials. Could probably pull 1.8x 60'.


      Side note for me, I don't feel bad with my car running 15.6 on motor with 7k DA after seeing some sea level times.

        Im running the A4.

        And the bad thing about 2.2 being a light launch is I was mashing the hell out of it. So either I'm down on power, which it doesn't feel like it or something is messed up in the suspension. I was expecting 1.8x so that's why I'm totally confused.

          You need to get the 60' times under 2.0 to see some lower et's . Your best investment would be a higher stall torque converter. I would recommend a 3,000 stall for the street.
          The stock suspension is actually ok for what you have. A good set of headers would also help out in the power dept along with some added fuel from an adjustable fuel pressure regulator.

            Since your a A4 ,do you have Hptuners to recalculate your shifts for gear change and tire size? Your tunnel mount Tq arm should be fine at -2, I have had mine set at -2 for over 8 years. Just buy a pinion angle finder from Habor Freight for pretty cheap and check the angle its worth the extra time checking it.

              So are you guys sayin that the suspension setup maybe be fine, it just the lack of power/ stall in the trans to really out any power to the ground that's the issue? I was under the impression that some guys were cutting sub-2.0's with mostly stock engine packages but changes to the suspension.

              I do not have HPtuners, nor would I ever probably have the time to really get it figured out. However, I did have ZZPerformance tune my PCM for the gear change and it seems to be working well as far as I can tell.

              I do have the angle finder and I sent my own angle at what I thought was -2 but on my way home last night I thought...thought I felt some vibration, ever so slightly so I wonder if the angle is wrong and causing it to not have as much bite on launch.

                Do you run it in 3rd or OD?

                Have you tried launching at a higher RPM? You have a lot of tire for a stock six so it should hold.

                Get some drag springs for the front to help with weight transfer.

                  Since you got new rims and tires , whats the height of them compared to the stock? Reason I'm asking is if the trans tables aren't set up right with the correct gear and tire size the trans will shift too soon and the speedo will be off. Also did ZZP raise shift points and do any thing to the trans, like delete TQ Mang, rev limiters, or anything like that? Theres alot of tables for A4's tunning wise. M5's theres not alot needed to tune them.

                    The new ET streets are 275/50/15 (26x11.5). I didnt think they'd be too big but maybe they are. I make my passes not in OD but just D, do burnouts in 1. The burnouts were also suspect this weekend. I had never done them before and the first couple runs I know I didn't get them up to temp. The last couple and best one, I finally saw smoke but not a ton. Would holding the burnout longer make a big difference on these tires?

                    As far as I know ZZP raised the shift points, because it went all the way to red before shifting each gear. Deleted TQ management and either raised or deleted rev limiters.

                    I crawled under it last night and checked pinion angle again. The plate of the TQ arm under the diff is 0 and the drive shaft right at the diff is -2. So that should be ok correct?

                      I launched at about 2000-2500 range, I didn't think about trying to push it higher. I'll add that to my notes for next trip to the track.

                          I'm guessing probably about that. It is whatever the stock one is in our trans. I haven't replaced it...yet

                            Then it's an 1800. You can't launch the car very hard then maybe 1400-1500 rpms.

                              Ok maybe it's 1500 then, not 2500. I couldnt remember exactly. Well it looks like I've narrowed it down to my next step, and that's what going to the track is all about!
