  • Shudder when I brake

    Ok, when I apply my brakes very lightly or any more than medium, the car's fine. When I brake med-lightly, the car has a shake to it. The steering wheel shakes a little (rotates maybe half a cm either way rapidly) and the car itself kinda vibrates-shakes. One of my friends asked me if it was supposed to do that . I'm not sure if it's supposed to do this (the ABS) or if I need to get something checked. I'd appreciate any input you guys have.

    Thanks,
    Rob

    This is a problem.

    Got to your local brake & tire center and tell them to have your rotors turned. It's fairly simple for them to do (not very expensive) and doesn't take long (30 mins if they are not busy).

    Worse case scenerio, your rotors are past the turn point and you'll have to replace them ~$120 a pop.

    basically what has happened is the brake rotor instead of being a nice flat disc, is starting to resemblem the shape of a pringles potato chip and that is whats causing the vibration.
    Not a problem, just a challenge...

      So assuming the rotar(s) need replacing, is this something covered by waranty or would I actually have to pay for it? Cause if I'm gonna have to pay for it, I think I may try to convince my parents to let me upgrade rotars. Of course, if it's warenty, that's all that much better. Thanks for lettin me know it's a problem though.

        Definately sounds like warped rotors. I don't know about the 98+ rotors, but for my 96, they only cost me $28 each at PepBoys. I don't think rotors are covered under warranty.

          I don't think rotors are covered under warranty either, but it never hurts to ask. Yeah, unfortunately the 98+'s aren't as luck to get away with ~$30 rotors, you'll find em @ $90 around your town if your lucky.

          I've never had a problem with the powerslots and they are only a little more than what you'll pay for out in town. I've heard nothing but good things about the Eradispeeds. But expect to pay out the @$$ for them (but then again, how can you put a price on your ability to STOP? :D )

          Any more questions let me know!

          {EDIT}
          oh yeah - BTW, you can drive around like that, but the more you brake, the sooner you'll wear out your pads too. So I'd get those as soon as you can!
