How wide of a tire up front????

I am getting some new tires/rims and would like to know how wide a tire I could use on a 18x8 inch rim. The guy at the shop recommends 245 40 tires. I want to have the tires/rims be the same size front rear so I can rotate them later on (save some cash) How wide a tire can I have on the front without having any clearance problems and having the tire rub? 255? 275? I really want to know before making a big purchase. Well any help/advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

275's just fit. Anything wider requires modifiactions, which can get REAL pricey.

275/40-R17 they fit just fine.. may not if I lower my car but right now they do =)

275's on a 8" wide rim may not go well.

245's are common on 8" wide rims and 255's are pushing, or so i always thought. 275's you want 17or 18X9.5" rims

u can go w/ 255-40-18 tires and not have a problem. just make sure the offset and backspacing of the rim are within specs so they stay in the wheel well.
