Anyone got information about converting the rear shocks/springs into coilovers? I did a search and turned up zilch. I'm just looking into the feasibility/practicality of doing this atm.

A friend of mine with a 96 Z just put coil overs on his about a week ago, he said it made a huge difference. As for feasability, here's what he had to say

quote:
I SINCERELY HOPE THAT IS THE LAST TIME I TAKE THOSE SHOCKS FOR A LOOOOONG WHILE! For all those contemplating suspension mods this is a VERY frustrating install. It doesn't get much easier with practice either.
It took me 6 hours to install the coil overs and set the ride height. This involved many four letter words, created much carnage, and scraped the finish off some nice springs and aluminum components.

quote:
Initial driving impressions are that THIS THING SHOULD KICK A$$ AT THE AUTO-X. The car feels really good. It actually now turns in better and responds to steering imputs quicker than my 3rd gen did.

If I had the money I would definitely do it. allight..
first off.. the GC kit is not "coil over" in the rear.. yeah it has adjsutable preches... however.. they are still in the stock location so its not a true spring over shock "coil over"..
if ride hight adjustment is all you are looking for give ground controll or sam strano a call...
the spring will likly run you $50 a peice.. and the threaded bodies will run you about $25 each..
so about $150
If you are looking for a true spring over shock coil over kit.. I saw one the other day in a magazine my old roomate had.. however i dont recall who made the kit.. I can figure it out if you really need to know however

LG Motorsports makes a full coilover set for F-bodies, at $1,600 for 4. My advice would be to assess EXACLTY WHAT YOU NEED. If you just want coilovers to have "you I got me sum coilovers biatch!", then you don't need coilovers.
If you want a lowered ride, get lowering springs.
If you want an autocross car, you don't want coilovers, you want Koni's. $800+
If you want a drag car or a nice mix of drag / ax, get HALs up front (and out back it's a toss up). HALs are $350 plus modifying your spring seats or getting race springs. It's a full coilover shock up front. HALs are also offered as adjustable rate (not coilover) shocks out back, but I chose to go with CE drags. If you want adjustability out back, get AllStarPerformance weight jackers, at like $60 or something, to adjust the height of the rear spring. Not a coilover -- you'd have to look at the rear suspension to understand.
As I say, don't get coilovers to get coilovers, or swaybars to have swaybars.97 Camaro 3.8L M5
Car for saleterpmotors.com Terrapin Motorsports! UMCP
