  • Changing ABS breaks

My breaks are really old right now and I am planning on getting new ones sometime in January. My dad told me that he has changed breaks on other cars before but since the bird has ABS he is afraid that we will mess it up. Has anyone changed ABS breaks?? how hard is it? or should I just take it to a shop and let them rip me off.

No, don't take it to a shop if you already know how to change them. They aren't any different than any other brakes you may have changed before. Your ABS unit will be fine.

ok thanks man, thats all I needed to know. I guess its not too technical or anything. I will change my brakes myself and might even get new rotors cause the stock ones warp or something when I go at high speeds.

If you're really worried buy a Haynes manual to guide you.

Just some tips, when you take off the calipers DO NOT let them hang by the brake line. Depending on how high you jack the car you could just slip a bucket upside down under there and set it on that. Also, make sure you have something to compress the piston. We were cheap and used C-clamps. If I remember correctly you'll also have to unhock the connector for the ABS on each caliper, but other than that its pretty simple.
