  • Fun way to loosen rusted shock mount

I was replacing the front shcoks this weekend with SLP t/o shocks and springs, when i came across a problem.

When i loosened the retaining nut on the shock mount after i had compresssed the spring, the mount itself was rusted onto the shaft of the shock.

So after pulling hammering and cursing, i had a brainshower, why not slowly uncompress the spring until it pops the the mount off.

Needless to say this isn't the safest thing to do, but if you have a clear area, about 15 foot radius, it will work :D after about 15 or 20 turns on the spring compressor...i heard a thwang and saw the shock mount launch about 15 feet and land at the bumper of my car...LOL.

Be sure to keep your hands clear when you do this beacuse i'm sure it would HURT.

Stay tuned for more redneck mechanic tips from Cooter's Garage.

yeah.. that passenger side mount is a mofo..

mine was fused to the shaft also..

we enged up trying to cut it.. and ram it out but it jsut got more stuck..

regardless.. thats and expensive part if you need to replace it..

it runs almost $100.00 at the dealership!!!

    i was not too thrilled..

I just used a hacksaw and cut the shock near the top of the tower. Worked great.
