  • kyb vs. tokico

I'm looking for shocks in the $300/set price range. I need the car to handle a lot better than stock, but not be too extreme, and I need to be easy on my ***. What should I look for? KYB is slightly more expensive than Tokico, but I've heard good things about Tokico... Or should I dish out an extra hundred for Bilsteins? Durability is also an issue, as there are a lot of potholes and bumpy roads in NYC.

You can get the Bilstein HD shocks and struts for $330 shipped from bimmerparts.com. I can't comment on how they work with the stock springs though. So far they're doin pretty good with my Eibach springs.

Depending on the year of your car you may want to do springs at the same time. Putting on struts in the front and figuring out 5 months down the road that you need to replace the springs is just a pain. If you decide not to do springs, I'd suggest getting a tube of silicone and putting a nice glob of it over over the screw on the struts, this will prevent it from rusting.
