What I found out was that chrome-moly needs to be heat treated after welding or the weld area is no stronger than mild steel. They guy at BMR said (about two years ago) he didn't heat treat after welding. I got the mild steel.
Yup, chrome moly is not for the everyday person.
Chrome moly is stronger and much lighter and obviously more expensive.
I have spoken so a couple of aftermarket companies.
When I was deciding between a chome moly vs mild steel k member they all said the same thing:
stronger
lighter
more expensive
do not use on the street, track only
I was told that since the chrome moly is soooo strong it is not forgiving, no flex. On a street car running over various bumps etc they have come across chrome moly k members that have snapped due to no flexing.
I would just stick with the mild steel

I trust people understand that chrome-moly is not _lighter_ than mild steel. It is stronger so you can use tubing _thinner_ than mild steel that weighs less but that is just as strong or stronger. But it's tricky to get it right.

BS. Chrome-moly is used in high speed race cars where the bumps have a lot more force. Snapping is due to poor design or poor construction. Chrome-moly is "less forgiving" because it is harder to design and fabricate properly.

I'd say - do not use unless you _know_ the designer and constructor are experts in using it. In a lot of street parts it is used for pose value. Race guys are more likely to do it right.
