  • KVR Rotors....need opinions

I am in desperate need of rotors, and im pickin some up. Ive been researching around the net, and on this site. Ive decided on KVR rotors. Here's my questions:

    1) Go with blanks, cross drilled, or slotted? They all pretty much cost the same, looks are important, but i dont want stress cracks at all. So im leaning toward the blanks.

    2) On fasttoys website, the blanks are listed for 98+ only. They would fit my 96 right?

    3) Whats up with that coating? It wears off after 3000 miles right? So whats the point?

I have KVR blanks and like them, only get the others if you want the look. They do little for performance and slotted rotors chew up pads quicker.

No, 96 rotors are different from 98+

The coating will prevent rust for pretty much the life of the rotor and will stay nice if you keep your car reasonably clean and washed.

I have the cross drilled ones with their carbon fibre pads, they help A LOT with cooling the brakes as well as brake dust. My brakes used to get so dirty and hot, made me buy new rotors and pads and KVR fixed the problem.
      Stopping power is great too.
I would recommend the coating too, it helps against rust and stuff. The only part that rubs off is where the pad contacts the rotor. Mine still look good though.

I got the blanks... i have heard form word of moth that a few of my ls1 buddies have had the drilled ones crack..

get he cadinum(sp?) coating.. it keeps them looking real pretty.. expecialy in the center where i am sure your stockers are all nasty and rusted..

great rotors/pads imo.. probably best for the money.. and dont have warping issues..

well guys, i think im doin the cross-drilled ones, cause they have chamfered holes, and im plannin on rims this summer, so the X-drilled will look good.

cause of the risk of cracks or what?

ive done my research, but from what i found, other than slightly faster pad wear, and the slight possiblilty of cracking (normally on cheaper rotors that are x-drilled), i cant see not getting cross drilled ones for $1 more

There are some things more important then looks.
If there is a much greater chance of failure with drilled than blanks then I would go blanks. You don’t want a rotor to crack and passably break apart on an emergency stop going 80 on the freeway. And if it deices to shatter and part of it got caught on something like the caliper, it could do serious damage. (Rip off the caliper breaking brake line, making you loose all breaks)

Now of course that’s one of the worse case scenarios but if its one I could decrease possibility on, id do it.
