Would using the same diameter front and rear rotors work? Say I got 2 sets of baer eradispeed front rotors. Would I have to machine some brackets for the calipers to be moved? would the calipers have to be moved at all?

Prolly different calipers outback alltogether -- size, width, etc. Of course you'd have to make a custom bracket ... btu my question -- why?
The rear brakes don't do half the work the fronts do ... I'd say leave them as is, at least for now.
If you gotta do what you gotta do, you'll need another pair of front calipers.

look at the mounting points for both calipers, if they are the same, as said above, you would just need 2 complete calipers and you'd be set- \"So you have something to look at when you\'re talking to \'em\" -
http://www.cardomain.com/member_pages/view_page.pl?page_id=296916

ok, according to the sites modification's encyclopedia, under stock brakes, the front rotors are 11.9" and the rears are 12". from what I've seen under the car, it looks like the rotors are close to the same thickness. The reason i'm looking at doing this is for rotational weight savings. the front baer eradispeed rotors for our cars are between 11-22 lb's lighter than stock, whereas the rears are just baer blanks that are cross-drilled and slotted, and are closer to stock weight. I am not looking at upgrading calipers, I'm just trying to lighten up the rotational weight for more power to the rear wheels.2001 Arctic White Firebird
More mods than I\'m allowed to list!

yo man, if you want REALLY good rotors, check out www.frozenrotors.com
they use Brembo rotors, cryo treat them, and basically make them sick.
read all about them. they are flat out the best rotors you can get

I dont eve nthis this idea is all that feasable..
Look at your front rotors.. they are for the mot part flat..
where as the rears are inset about 2" or something to clear the hub.. now.. call my crazy.. but they probably did that for a reason..
all and all.. i agree with rob.. even if you could do it.. you wont get much from it..
and while hte rotors are the same/similar "size" they are in no way the same shape.. and the pads are totaly different..
good luck..

That is a typo, 93-97 discs are 11.4" and 98 up are 12".Robert - owner www.FirebirdV6.com/CamaroV6.com

Also remember the rear rotors have the "drum" built in for the parking brake. Somehow making front rotors fit in the rear would eliminate your parking brake. I have slotted/cross drilled rotors all the way around and they were noticably lighter than the stock ones. Combined with EBC green stuff pads, the car will lock up all four wheels at 80 mph. Stops like a Porsche!

the rear rotors have hats for the parking brake.
if you had a vette, you could use the right front caliper on teh left rear. and vise versa, but you lose e-brake.
With an f-body, it is not worth the effort for what you are doing, unless your car runs like 7's
