• welding body together

I tore out my entire interior to remove some nasty carpet. I got to looking these cars are mostly just riveted together. Would welding most of these areas together make for a stiffer/stonger body?

no wonder my car rattles so much :D ...i would think that welding these areas would significantly improve the oveall stiffness of the body and would improve launching and cornering

yes, it would probably stiffen it to a certain degree. I'd make sure the body is straight first before u weld everything. Also, after u've welded all the seams, u might wanna pull out all the rivets. Might save a few lbs. also, while the carpet is up, u might consider throwing down some lightweight dynamat or something to reduce road noise somewhat.

Did you happen to take any pics of the bare floor and rivets? I'd like to see where they are, and how cheap GM is when they build cars.

          rivets?

I have taken every panel out of my 98, and have not found any rivets holding it togher.

There are a lot of spot welds, and stitch welding the seams would impove strength

(nissan hand welds these seams on their high end Japenese only vehicles, if this gives you some insight of the benefits. )

                        nasty.

... when i took my carpet out, i pressure washed it.. came out perfect.

but it was fairly clean to begin with, just a little coke spilled from previous owner under the seats.
