Did some reserch @ 1010tires.com
17x8.5 Front w/ 245/40/17 is 9.64 wide & 24.71 tall
sidewall is 3.85.
18x9.5 Rear w/ 275/40/18 is10.82 wide & 26.66 tall sidewall is 4.33
I got this from someone here who runs this setup.
I think I would run:
285/40/17 Front, 11.2 wide, 26 tall, sidewalls 4.48
& 295/35/18 Rear, 11.6 wide, 26.2 tall & 4.06 sidewalls.
Use www.1010tires.comTiresizeCalculator.asp to see what you like.

A 285/40/17 would bulge on an 8.5" rim though, don't you think? has anyone tried that setup?
I have an 8" rim with a 245 series tire, and it fits great. Adding .5" of rim width and 4cm (about 1.5") of tire width may make them bulge too much.
