Do not buy takeoff shocks to use with lowering springs. Stock shocks are already crap as it is, and I mean absolute crap (this is why speedbumps are not fun in an Fbody). Please buy a bilstein HD set as a minimum or nothing at all if you're going to change springs.
As a follow-up, if you're going to pay $200 to have a set of shocks installed you might as well get a set like the bilsteins that you never have to worry about. If you get those take-off shocks, you will be replacing them in 30,000mi only to spend another $200 on the install.
Take Dominics word on this one. Unless you totally do all the work yourself it would be a waste to replace your stockers for stockers.
I say this even though i replaced mine with v8 take offs. I did do all the work myself and had all the tools I needed. So it only cost me around $100 to get mine done. She doesn't feel like a BMW but much better than before.
Replacing shock/struts can be very expensive from a labor point of view. Everyone around me wants $80/hour and up to do this work. They all quote that it could take a full day depending on each car.
So if your going to have to spend an @**load of money on labor might as well spend a few more on some shocks that will be much better than stock and last way longer than 30,00 miles.
wow there are still takeoffs around? I heard a roomer they weren't around anymore.
I might pick these up...
How hard is it to do the fronts? I am pretty competent, the rears are a cinch.

If youre getting lowering springs along with the take off shocks, my opinion is that you should get a set of better performance shocks. Since the take-off shocks were made for the stock springs, they work will work the best with stock springs. if youre trying to save money, try replacing the shocks currently on your car right now and sticking with your stock springs.
I did the take-off shocks and spring replacement off a V8 and did some research on the board and it is true that the front get a harsher ride, but it's not all that harsh for me exactly. As for the rears, the springs and shocks were the same for my car, (98+ are the same shock / spring) so there was not much difference there. I had 104,000 miles on the original springs so they were sagging a little, so the new ones increased my ride height along with the front. There wasn't a drastic increase, probably along the lines of a half a inch the most front and back.
I also picked up the springs / shocks for $25 on LS1.com, so if youre a little short on money or dont want to spend a whole lot on just shocks and springs, just do the stock shocks / springs setup. Your car will still be operational with or without the lowering springs
well i think i'll take your words on this, but i prolly wont get the bilsteins, i just dont have the funds for that. I'll probably get a set of the tokico shocks and pair them with the eibachs. Im just gonna have to wait longer to get everything, but if you guys think its worth it, then it is.

It is not very hard to do the fronts. I had a friend and myself do my car. It took a few hours, but cost me $0. Just need a spring compressor, then compress the spring (while the car is jackep up by the frame. so the axle hangs loose (extended). Obviously wheels will be off. Then take off the bolts from the hood compartment and the lower bolts come off too. Then pull the spring off and put the new ones on (have to compress these too). Then stick back into the same spot, that is basically all there is too it. Except if you have a winter car or a car that is rusted bad, the shocks/springs can become really hard to get off and many times you break the bolts. My car was in great shape in there so all my bolts looked perfect and there was very little rust on any of the components down there.
Not very hard as far as the concept goes. My shocks were welded to the strut mounts from rust. Not just the nut holding the shaft to the mount but the entire shaft to the mount itself. Major PITA. Was able to use a air chisle to get the passenger side lose. Had to finally go to cutting torch to get the driverside free of the mount.
So as long as everything is relatively corrosion free it is a piece of cake. If everything is siezed ... PITA.
Still trying to find oil leak on my Camaro, it’s a tough one. I think it is the oil pressure sender myself. Leaking when raving and going into boost....
