  • unmounted shock question

i think my front passenger side shock is unmounted. i checked it out and can't see anything obvious that would cause the noise i hear coming from it everytime i go over a bump. i think that it's the shock because my 82 t/a had a rear shock come unmounted, and it sounded exactly the same as this. unfortunately for that car, i couldn't even find anyone to fix it because it would have required them to take out the gas tank. anyway, is there anyway i can check myself to see if this is the problem? any suggestions about getting it fixed? thanks

Well if your shock has come unmounted, more than likely it would render the car undrivable. Two things to check for when hearing those noises are ball joints (upper and lower) they make lotsa noise when they're going out. And the mounting rivets on the upper ball joint. There are three rivets that secure the upper ball joint to the upper a-arm. This is a common problem on f-bodies and they make a lot of noise when they're worn. If you do a search you should find a good bit of info on the subject.
