  • Tire woes

First off, my car has 17,xxx-18,000 miles on it (still on the original tires). 3 of the tires are in great shape. Lots of tread on them. However, the rear passenger one has about 1/3 the tread the rest have (probably thanks to the wonder that is the open-diff  ). This same tire I was looking at today and saw it has a nail in it. I don't know how long the nail is or how long it's been in there, it's just there. I really don't want to buy a new tire, but looks like that's where this weeks's pay check is going. Would a can of fix-a-flat work with this if I pull the nail out? I never used that stuff before but remember I had a can of it in the toolbox in my Blazer.

I'm going to go to a local tire place tomorrow or Friday. Maybe they can give me some suggestions.

A lot of tire shops will fix a hole like that for free...or at the most $20.

It's like $15-20 to get it fixed. Don't cheap out and use fix-a-flat, that stuff is crap. Spend a few bux and get it patched.

Get it patched or plugged. To patch it, they will remove the tire from the rim and apply a rubber patch inside over the nail hole (make sure they rebalance the tire). To plug it, they will insert a little rubber plug in the hole from the outside. No need to remove or rebalance the tire.
