• I bought new tires :)

Well, took back my sliding-in-the-rain Eagle HPs, got some Dunlop SP5000s instead - P245/50R16.

Really nice looking tires, I think Stefan recommended these in a previous post.

Oh well, just wanted to mention this, dont know if it belongs in handling or not... Does anyone have these and like their traction in rain/AutoX/dry? How good did I do buying these?

Good choice Cardinal, they were neck and neck with the Kumho for me.

What made you choose these over the Bridgestone RE950s??

They were available, cheaper, Z-rated, and have been on the market far longer...

Plus they come in 245/50, 255/50, 275/40 and 285/40... all the possible sizes I might ever run... The RE950s dont come in anything bigger than a 245/50.

Great tires.

Hey Card,
I am about to buy them next week. Are they Unidirectional?? I see a pair on a Mustang the other day and on the sidewall it said,"Mount with this side out." Because it's Asymmetrical (outside half of tread differs from inside half). But can you switch the tires from right side to the left side??? I know that the RE950s, you can't do that.
Any pics? I haven't clicked on your link, but after writing this I will.

thx

Well the car tore up all 4 tires when I wrecked :(

But you won't be sorry with Sp5000s - Im definetly buying another set ASAP.

The Asymmetrical and Unidirectional tread pattern means you cannot do a left/right swap, only a front/rear - unless you demount the tires. It works just like a directional tire, only better :D

I love those things!

with the unidirectional, I would understand the demounting to switch sides because ALL 4 tires roll in the same direction. But for the asymmetrical, it don't make sense. I mean, the side wall says "mount with this side out", so basically if you demount, it would be like swaping left to right (or vice versa), without demounting. Does that make sense??

If you look at the picture from tirerack (here) you'll see what I'm saying. Half of the read pattern is different from the other half. So, I'm wonder if it has the same effect as the salad shooter rims. I mean on one side of the car it's twisting in one direction, but on the other side its another direction.

So, in other words, the Dunlops can roll in either direction. But on one side of the car the tread will angle towards the back, while on the other side it will angle towards the front.

I think I just answered my own question...lol

i have them and love them. i've had them for a while. something like 8 or 9 months, and i still have GREAT tread left. granted i don't do a lot of burnouts, but i do put a lot of miles on my car. the traction is great. The rain traction is awesome, too. the only downside to mine is that they are 215's, ugh. i didn't know much when i was going into buying tires and they gave me the oem size. oh well. they do the trick.

Well, I just ordered mine today. If you like them that much you better buy them NOW as a couple of stores told me they were to be discontinued. The TireRack warehouse that's closest to me won't have them in stock for another couple of weeks. I just ordered them from a brick & mortar store (America's Tire Co.).

Yeah, that's what the guy at Wheel Works told me. I also called another place and the only thing they got listed was the 8000 and 9000. The total from TireRack came to be $452 + $33.22 (per tire I assume) for shipping. If that's per tire then the total would be $584.88. I paid $558.xx total for my tires. I'll bring it to my work and have it mounted, balanced, and align for free!!! Woohoo!! Can't wait,,, :D I have so many patches on my tires it ain't even funny.
