In the market for new tires...

Well I recently bought 4 used (new to me) rims for my car. I wanted something wider, but still retaining stock appearance, so I bought the flat faced 1992 Z28 rims. They are 16x8 I believe and take the tire sizes of 235/55-16 and 245/50-16. As far as my understanding of those numbers I think I want the 245 (which is wider?) 50 (which is less sidewall). Correct me if I'm wrong please.

But what I'm actually wondering is what kind of tire do you recommend? I'm looking for something with long life, and good wet/dry traction. I'm keeping my other set of rims with Firestone Firehawks for winter driving, so that's not an issue. I also like cool tread patterns! (But not a must) Any help is appreciated!! Thanks in advance everyone! I learn so much from you guys!!

check out TIRE RACK they have a great search feature where u can pick a size and type of tire(high perf, all season, etc.) and they'll give you a list of matches with reviews of others who have bought them. i haven't ordered from them myself but it's definitly a good place to start.

Also try www.tires.com. Out of the 2 sizes, the 245 is wider, but they both have the same size sidewall.

I recommend Kumho Tires. They have a cool tread pattern. If you want a really cool tread pattern, check out the Yokohama Parada.

Try to go with P245/50 or P255/50, both will fit.
Kumho ECSTA 712s or Dunlop SP5000s are recommended.

Thanks for your advice everyone! I am probably going to go with the 245/50-16 tires. Funny you mention the Kumho ECSTA's becuase I had actually printed those out becuase it seemed like a really good deal. They got the like 5th best rating on the ultra high performance tires! And only for $88/tire!!
