  • ABS? Problem

Ive never encountered a problem like this before, but this morning on my way to work car is acting like the ABS is intermitenly coming on at the end of braking at a stop sign. The instant before the car comes to a COMPLETE stop, I can hear a selonoid clicking on and off, the LOW TRAC light comes on, and the ABS releases the brakes allowing the car to roll about 3-4 feet before the brakes come back and stop the car. I tried hitting the brakes harder, coming to a quicker stop, and again the ABS came on right before the car came to a complete stop, but not while heavy braking. Did it through every stop sign on the way into the office this morning, but hasnt done it before. Since I was at my office parking lot and trying to hurry to get in, I didnt get a chance to check the brake fluid, but I dont think that would have anything to do with it....lots of stopping power except when ABS kicks in. I did pull the front wheels off yesterday and had fresh rubber put on, then put the wheels back on, but didnt think I did anything to cause this. Just a coincidence? Any suggestions on a cause? Bad wheel sensors?

The same thing happened on my parents car. It was one of the front wheel sensors. Just like yours the ABS came on at every stop during normal braking on dry roads. Once the sensor was replaced, it was fine. In the meantime, you can pull the ABS fuse and drive without them until you replace the senor.

Thanks!! I was kind of hoping that was the problem. How can I test the sensor and figure out if it is the right or left?

That I don't know. They took it somewhere to get scanned, I don't know if a simple code check can find it or if you need full diagnostics.

They can scan for ABS codes but unless the ABS light comes on at all there probably will not be any. The thing to do would be to run a live scan and see if any of the wheel sensors skip out. but again that will set a code most times

I don't remember if my parents car had the ABS light on or not when the problem happened. I don't think it did. The car was still getting a signal from the sensor, hence why the ABS was engaging, but the sensor was faulty sending the signal at the wrong time. Not sure how to find the bad sensor.

Did it for 2 days in a row, now 2 days of nothing. Ive already scanned for codes (when it was problematic), nothing but my pesky manifold O2 sensors. I'll check on a price for the sensors when I pick up my new O2 sensors. Prolly just replace both of them and hope they last the car another 10 years. Thanks for the help guys!!
