• Pro/con's of Aftermarker Wheels?

Ok, I know that wheels are genrally put in the appearance section, but I was wondering most towards the overall effects of larger wheels/tire sets. Lets just use 17x8.5 Front and 18x9.5 in the back Y2K vette rims. Here is what I see so far, and please, add on or correct mine as you se fit.

---PRO's---
Better Looks
Better Traction

---CON's---
Slower Times
Bumpier Ride
More Costly Tires

Anything Else? I am trying to look at the overall changes that I will notice, from all perspectives, if I get new rims.

17s will give you added handling -- there are many benifits to aftermarket rims. From looks to lighter-than-factory, added traction and better handling.

Shop around and find what you like, but remember, F-Bodies have never looked good going "bling, bling"

;)

After market wheels are a good upgrade in performance and looks, but be careful! Almost all aftermarket wheels(90% or so) don't conform to GM standards for durability. Some are exceptions (drag/race wheels), but for the most part they don't. However, most drivers won't even come close to an impact that will destroy a wheel, so all in all they are a good upgrade but be careful of which wheels they are. You could get burned!!

I heard this is especially true with eagle wheels, I personally don't have them so I'm not sure if its true? Supposedly they bend very easy. Alot of people on here use them...any comments

More Pros and Cons...

Pros: Handling is waaay better than my 215/60R16 tires and 16x7.5 "Flower Power" stock wheels ever offered.

Cons: Sand and salt from snowy areas will mess up your finish (as it does with all wheels). You'll probebly want to keep your stock wheels for wintertime, and run the nice wheels in the non-snowy weather.

Cons: You'll be paranoid about parking near curbs; at least I am. I am always afraid I will scratch my wheels on a curb. With my stock wheels, my attitude about parking near curbs has always been, "**** it."

That's all I have to say. And with that being said, I love my aftermarket wheels, and I think you would too

Another big Con is they might hurt your gas mileage. I went to y2k vette rims 17"x8.5" and it hurt mine.
