Does anyone know if the steering rack for the ls1 and v6 are interchangeble. I am converting my v6 to an ls1 and have bolted the motor and kmember and no the steering shaft doesn't line up it seems to hit on the header and the exhaust manifold heat sheild.

I thought they were the same, dimensionally.
One of the specific changes contained in the y87 option package I have on my v6, is the quick ratio steering gear that normally comes on the v8.\'98 A4 Camaro v6->v8 conversion, and STS kit next
v6: 13.6 Powerdyne, 13.2 150 shot, 13.8 120 shot, 14.3 85 shot, 15.7 stock
v8(na): 12.18@113, 392rwhp
Moderator on www.mtfba.org and www.frrax.com (Road Race & Autocross)
Car pics, TN Region SCCA

where is the gearing for the steering contained. if its in the rack then the rack I have is from an SS so it should have the quick ration gears. But does anyone know if the angle at which the steering shaft coming from the steering wheel would be at a different angle then the ls1. I am trying to detirmine if the problem lies in my conversion or the addition of the jet hot long tubes.2001 Trans Am WS6 A4
SLP Lid
FlowTech Cutout
TNT F1 Dry Kit
Bone Stock 13.3@104.7
75hp Shot 12.0@117.8
1998 Camaro V6
LS1/T56 Swap
SLP Lid
Hooker Long Tubes
B&B Triflo Exhaust
B&M Ripper

They are 100% swappable. One of 14.4:1 and another is like 16:1 ratio. The V8 rack is quicker ratio by a little bit and will bolt up without worry, its identical to the Y87 rack. All angles are the same.2002 5-spd NBM Camaro
