I am getting some 17X9.5 TA wheels and the guy said he would include some 315 for like 50 bucks more, are they worth it? too much tire for us?? I do have traction problems, my 14.90 was on GAs spinnin a bit off the line... They are the same height as a GSC and the F1's that will be on the front... Any opinions??

Are 315's too much?

I highly doubt a 315 width tire will fit on a 9.5" wheel. A 315 is rated for a 11" wide rear wheel.
hope this helps

The range here states between 10.5" and 12.5" for a 315 with tire.1998 NBM Pontiac Firebird - LS1/T56 Swap | Pro-Kit Springs & Bilstein HD\'s | BMR LCA\'s | LG Adj. if you are dropping your car it will look fine, but if you leave your car stock heighth with those wide tires...ouch, it looks terrible. lol, no joke though, the tires just take over if there isn't a drop.2000 NBM M6 Camaro Z28
323/335

Dominic is right, that much tire on a 9.5" rim is too much and is un-safe. However, to answer your question ... yes a 315 width will give you more bite. A 315mm width is around 12.6" wide.
I have read posts where folks have dynod' before and after. You will loose around 3-5 rear wheel HP do to the heavier tire wheel combo. But, the traction may be worth it. It depends on what your looking to get out of it.
If you are wanting to use this for drag racing. Then I would sugest a light weight set of cold forged alum wheels with slicks.
I hope that helps. Thanks,
JAM
02 Firebird GT

"If the rim is too wide or too narrow, the tire bead will not seat properly. As a general rule, the proper rim width for a tire will be 1/2 to 1 1/2 inches narrower the the section width of the tire [315s are 12-1/2 inches wide], depending on the size of the tire."
"If the rim is too narrow, the flex point moves toward the shoulder area, creating heat buildup in the shoulder which reduces tire life and could result in failure."
9.5s are much too narrow. The tire could fail suddenly. The tire will not work well and will probably cause traction/handling problems. Definitely not a safe (or a good) thing to do.2000 Firebird convert, chameleon/tan, M5, Y87, TCS, BMR tower brace and panhard, KBDD sfcs, 245/50-16 GSCs
