  • car shakes when i break....help!! w/in

    Hey guys,

OK...bought my car with 47k miles...and the guy put new rotors and pads on the front. My car has 75k miles on now and definately needs new breaks. What is causing the car to shake really bad when i break. I realize i might need an alignment and rotation also. Rotors are really expensive..would that many miles put on the car require new rotors or just pads?? What about the rear drums...i was told not to attempt to fix those myself... I guess my question is How much do front pads and rear drums usually cost from a local shop? AND what do I do with the rotors...get new ones or or someone told me you can have them turned down??? I wanna sell my car in the spring and don't wanna put that much money into it now...but I dont' wanna die in the winter either. Any help would be great...thanks guys!!

if the car only shakes when you're braking, it shouldn't be alignment or balance problems. i think your car is shaking cuz the front rotors are warped. chances are you just need to get the rotors resurfaced. i don't think it's very expensive, probably around 100 dollars or so. well that's kind of expensive, but compared to replacing parts, its not too bad.

Sounds to me like your rotors are warped. fbody rotors suck. I'm gonna get powerslotted rotors, they are very good.

              rotors, its common

I recommend resurfacing or replacing the front rotors AND getting new pads all around.

I think part of the problem w/ our rotors is the stock pads. I had my rotors replaced under warranty (but they left the pads) and started getting slight vibration AGAIN (nowhere near as bad as before I had them replaced, but still they are brand new disks!). I replaced the pads w/ hawk hps pads & no more vibration.

Rotor resurfacing is only $5-10 each. Really cheap. If you know how to change your oil you can figure out how to change your brakes. It is sooooooo easy.
