  • ever changed springs with U-bolts???

welp I sure did, didnt take too long, just felt stupid doing it.

I jacked the car way up and put it on stands. then jacked the axle up till it held the weight of car so it compressed the springs. put the clamps on two clamps on each spring and when let the axle down they came out pretty easy.

then after flying bolts, i compressed two spring coils together with one two more with another u-bolt and then held all three together with one more. took the other ones off and placed the spring in the car. jacked up the car by the axle again and unbolted the clamps.

did the same to the other and everything works great.

$35 dollars for trans am springs from fbodyjunk.com

    and $4 for u-bolts

This is a great concept, but if you jack one side up at a time and then remove the lower nut on the shock and detach the shock from the axle, it will allow you to lower the axle enough to pull the spring out without compressing it. Then, install the new spring and raise the axle to reattach the shock. This will be easier and will take less time.

i didnt know and have never messed with axles before so I didnt mess with the axle. I did it with a buddy of mine who also has no experience with axles. I could just see myself cruising down the road and BAMM!!!!! my alxe twists off and flys past me at 60 mph
