I have 235 55 16s on my car now, they are goodyears(forget which ones but stock) anyways they are about bald, and handled like crap, can i put 245 50 16s on without any problems such as the speedo due to the lower profile?? Any suggestions that arent too expensive, i was looking at Toyo Proxes, Eagle F1s, pirelli p7000, anything else good????

245/50/16's will fit just fine, although I do not know about the speedo difference.
I bought my Kumho Tires from www.tirerack.com
They are one of the sponsors for this site, and they have some decent prices too.

The speedo will only be off minimally.

Stock will be 26.2"
New tire will be 25.6"

Which means when your speedo says your doing 60 your actually doing 58.8 with the new tires!

As for size on a stock 16x8 you can use:

1. 245/50/16 = when spedo read 60mph your real speed is 58.8

2. 255/50/16 = when spedo read 60mph your real speed is 59.7

IF you have the steel 16x7.5 wheel the largest you can use is a 245/50/16.

As for what type of tire. That depends on what you would like to get out of it. Some tires are better for dry roads only. Others are good for light snow, and wet roads. Some weight a bunch less than other brands.

Toyo 245/50/16 = about 23lbs and is a summer tire.
Eagle F1s = about 28lbs and are a summer tire.
Pirelli's = decent all year round traction. Not sure on weight.

Tire rack has good specs. For weight you usually have to go to the manufactures web-site and or write them. Tire rack has not been able to provide me weights when I ask. I hope this helps. Best of luck!

The stock goodyears carry a 45,000 mile warranty and are worth $130+ new.

You have a right at any time during their life to trade them in for a different set of goodyears if they wear to fast - I've done it once and Im going to do it again on this Camaro. My 2000 firebird was the first one I did.

At 15,000 miles my tires were worth $100/ea. I used Sears to do my warranty work. P245/50 or P255/50 are the two sizes which fit, P245 is slightly smaller but won't throw the speedo off much at all - its fine.

Since Sears honors all goodyear treadlife warranties, and Sears sells all goodyear tires, and the warranty DEMANDS a tradein for another set of goodyears (thats the sucky part), and Sears also has a pricematch guarantee against tirerack or any other competitor... I use Sears

I'm going with Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 P245/50YR16s... $131/ea from tirerack, so I'll be paying approx $30/tire + mnt/bal/tax. Not a bad deal if you ask me.

Another cheap idea... P245/50R16 Kumho 711 ($55/ea)... I like them better than Kumho 712s, H rated, cheaper, and have a BFGoodrich proven tread design.

Goodluck.

Worth $130? Price and value are two different things. And OEM tires are usually priced 15-20% higher than comparable tires because.. they were OEM.

After I wore out my stocks, I put on a set of Bridgestone Potenza RE950's (245/50R16) I picked up from Tire Rack. Amazing difference over stock, I'd buy again.

absolutely the best tire you can buy for the f-body. and if you like a wide tire and hardly any change on the speedo, go with these...

Trust me, I got right at $100/tire and they were bald with 14,000 miles on them. Its hard to pass that up. I ended up replacing mine with Dunlop SP5000s and was very satisfied until I got my car smashed in April 02.

On a side note i love the Bridgestone RE950s, did you know they also have a 45,000 mile warranty?
