why 50? you need a 285/30-18 to keep your speedo on target. but i think they only make 235/35-18

    i know the 35's won't rub

i definitely want to go wider on the rear because of traction...but i was thinking the larger height on the rear might increase speed? ..i can use HP Tuners to adjust the speedo... tirerack.com sells 285/30 - 50/18

actually it looks like 40 would be the way to go...they do have 45s and 50s but they're either not the tires im looking for or are just flat out more than im willing to pay...but im definitely going 285 wide ...would i be able to put this width on the front too?

how would the larger height increase speed? by using a taller tire, you're increasing your tire mass. Increased rotating mass will slow you down a lot more than just adding normal weight to the car. You'd probably be better off getting a good street tire or DR's if you're looking for more traction.

my thinking was that with a tire with a larger radius would move the car farther on one rotation than a tire with a smaller radius...i was searching some tires and it looks like the best ones would be 40s anyway..(i asked above) ..would these fit on the front?...if so...would i want to put them on the front too?...its nice to just be able to buy one size tire

yeah you dont want a taller tire, it will increase your rotating mass (very bad) its kinda similar to one of the reasons small turbos spool faster (because of the lower rotating mass). i'm thinking of getting a set of 15" rims to run at the track (you can get some really wide 15" tires). i would look into that and maybe some skinny's for the front. If you are serious about your times get a seperate set of tires for the track than the street.

ahhhh i see...i dont know that i'll invest in skinny's...maybe...i'll have to see how i run...i have a set of 16" salad shooters...would those do ok?...what size would i want to put on there?

but actually...if my rears end up being thinner than the front i guess i'd have to get some skinny's...

to me skinny's are a worthwhile track mod, they are lighter and have less resistance. 16's would be fine but only if you have an equal or smaller rim for the front as well. MT makes some 16" drag radials now or you could go all out and get some slicks (im pretty sure 16" slicks are available).
