• rotors to fit into a c5?

hey all, I have got some squeaking going on and recently has my rotors replace (mom forced me to) because the rears were warped... possibly from burning out haha..

anyways, i have 18" c5s and the stock brakes looks disgusting... especially that line of rust that goes around the center....anyways... i have been planning on changing out the pads to ceramic and getting larger rotors to fill that huge gap from my new rims, im not a heavy racer autocross junkie or anything, so i would like a little nicer stopping power (rotors will be bigger anyway so that automatically means more friction)

im not sure that i want all the cross drilled and sltotted fancy stuff... i mean it looks sick but i have heard of cracking and warping.. im thinking just some larger blanks, but MAYBE slotted, since i dont think they crack as much.. or dimpled? i duno, any suggestions, i want somthing that will look nice, and will i be able to buy ceramic pads still? or do i have to get a larger size or somthing if im getting larger than stock rotors... and what size rotor for 18" rims?

but to make answering easier, here are my QUESTIONS!!...

    1. Rotors: blanks slotted dimpled or drilled for normal street wear... occasional dumbass moves and burnouts, the rotors definately need to be more sturdy than anything else.

    2. What size rotor to best fill the gap from 18" c5 rims

    3. will ceramics (i want em because they are low dusting mainly) still work, can i buy the stock replacements or do i need a different pair for larger rotors?

also, looking for cheapest possible here... and if its an ebay thing, only recommend if you have them and know they're good!

    THANKS A TON!!!

You already have 12" rotors front and rear. That's plenty of stopping power for the street. You can get 13" kits for the fronts but they are pretty expensive, $2-3k? You can't simply go with bigger diameter rotors because then the caliper wouldn't be able to fit into the stock mounting location. You need adapter plates to move the caliper out to accomodate the larger rotor. I've also heard of people putting 'vette brakes on the front, which would probably cost a third or a quarter of a Baer or Wilwood setup.

If you just want to clean up your stock rotors, brush the rust off them, mask off the pad contact area and paint them with a high-temp paint.

FunkZ's right. It's pretty costly to upgrade the front rotors, you have the brake setup that alot of pre 98's upgrade to. I'm working on getting the parts to bolt on c5 front rotors/brakes though its going to cost me around 800 dollars. There's a few sets of bob bishop converstion brackets still for sale at frrax.com under classifiedes in group purchase #2.
You could slap on the biggest rotor you can find though you'd have to leave the caliper off.
