Hey, I am going to get the SLP take-off shocks because I need new shocks, and I am on a bugget. Should I get the springs too? Are they any good?

since the shocks are a bit stiffer, will they hurt your 1/4th times?
-
No, springs never wear out unless they are race fatigued or stressed due to an accident.2002 5-spd NBM Camaro

ehh.. I don't think I would say they never wear out.. everything can wear out and springs can and will settle over time..
as far as the V8 springs you might want to look at the technical database and see how the newer V8 spring rates compare to your 96 springs..
the valving in the V8 shocks will stiffen up your ride not only because of their valving but because your shocks if they are original are likely quite worn.. the V8 springs will also affect the stiffness of the ride..
it really all depends on how cushy or how stiff of a ride you want, personally I think my 98 suspension is too cushy..-Brad

i was told V8 springs are the same in the rear but will lift the front end up on a v6 car b/c the engine is lighter.
Is it true that springs will not really wear out?

Yes theyre stiffer front/rear than V6 pre98 springs, and the best way to describe it is "the car will sink less into the springs than on V6 springs".
So in essence the car might sit a little higher.
Springs can wear out, but they really don't. I'd say replacing springs might be necessary every 15-20 years on a road only car .2002 5-spd NBM Camaro

Easy dom ... go pull some springs off of a race car after a season or two and you'll see some major sag.
No, don't even go there. (with a sag joke)

Do springs wear out?
Depends on the springs.
Spring rate varies little with the exact steel alloy/manufacture process/heat treat. Spring resistance to fatigue varies enormously with these.
So if you're running NASCAR, you pay a lot for really good springs. You have to. If they sag a bit during the race, you're illegal. If you allow for sag by setting the car a little higher, you're slow.
If you're GM, you don't use such good springs, so OEMs sag over time. If you're an aftermarket company, you have a choice of selling good stuff or cheap stuff. Since so many people buy by price (how many questions here read like "What are the cheapest lowering springs?"), spring quality is not likely to be a whole lot better than OEM.
Bottom line. Springs you are likely to buy will sag noticeably over time (say 50K miles). Top quality racing springs will not (in your car's lifetime), but they're hard to find and expensive.2000 Firebird convert, chameleon/tan, M5, Y87, TCS, BMR tower brace and panhard, KBDD sfcs, 245/50-16 GSCs

How much will the 1LE springs raise or lower a v6? Since they are meant for the v8 how much will it raise the front? I really like the spring rates for the 1LE springs but don't want to make the ride height higher than it already is.98 Bright Red Camaro
Too many mods to list....check my website
