• What kind of wheels to get to fix speedo issue with 3.73 ratio gears?

Hi everyone,
I have 3.73 ratio gears on my car (upgraded from the stock 3.08s) so my speedometer is off by about 15%

What size wheels do I need to get to compensate for the gears and get the speedo to be accurate again?

My car is a '99 Camaro and there is nothing out there that can modify the computer (no hypertech applications for '99 models, etc) so the only way for me to do this is changing the wheel size.

Thanks for your help!

There are no reprogrammers that will work. Jet SCU would be ok if I had 3.42s

What's wrong with that speedo recalibrator? 1994 to current = includes 99.

It worked perfect for me.

I bought an SLP speedometer recalibrator just like the one shown in that url ... it didn't work. SLP ended up telling me that it had something to do with me having cruise control and the bypass wouldn't work (cruise control hasn't worked since the gear change anyway.)

Basically this is my excuse to get new wheels so help me out

I have a couple of new recalibrators that are a little fancier than the ones shown here.manufacturer
claims they will work where others dont.
LMK if interested.

If you got new wheels that compensated for the new gear ratio....you would have essentially done nothing by changing your gear ratio.

I'm not putting 25" wheels on a Camaro. That's absurd

Would it be worth putting 17 or 18" wheels on it though, mostly to improve the handling? Right now it's got the stock 16" wheels with a stock suspension. I basicaly need/want an excuse to redo the suspension, put nice shocks, springs and get nice rims. Given the fact that I have 3.73 ratio gears and I don't want to compromise the performance of the car as far as acceleration goes, etc would do you guys recommend?

Suppose I do go with 17 or 18" wheels how would they effect the speedometer as it stands? Would it get a little closer to being correct?

hey see that whats nice about "plus sizing"

if yo get 17" rims with 275/40ZR-17's it will not change your speedo that much lik + or - .4%

and 18's you can do 275/35ZR-18's

EXAMPLE,
say from tred to tred arcoos is like say 30 inches as long as you keep that your speedo will not be affected (or vary close to it)

like stock tires are 235/50- 16 16 is the rims size
235= width in mm
50 = % of the with, or how tall tire is compair to the width in the case 117.5 mm tall

now say you got 275/40-17

275mm wide
40% of 275= 110 mm tall

so th tire is wider (good for us )
but is a little shorter
and the rim is a little taller making it the same or vary vary close to stock

if you need more info try
www.tires.com, look at there explantion under "PLUS SIZES"

Any local shop with a scan tool should be able to adjust for different gears/tire sizes. I know my dad just has a standard Snap On OBDII scanner that he uses in his shop, and he can adjust for gear, etc.
