  • Brake drag with new KVR and Hawks, why?

Hey, installed the brakes today, slapped on the new rotors and new pads. Used the c clamp to push back the piston (yes reservoir cap was opened). Then put the wheel back on and tried to rotate it and it stops. I pumped the brake after the install too. I drove around and did their weird break in procedure too, that seemed to have helped a little. Guess, I'll drive around tomorrow and spin them again. But why was it dragging? too thick pads? Anyone else experience this with KVR and Hawks HPS pads??

just worried about the drap causing less mpg and maybe premature warpage and wear...

BTW, stock pads were only HALF worn at 130,000 miles!!! I bought rears too, but the rears were hella thick still!! Damn, imagine if GM put better rotors in...prolly lifetime brakes,,,,'cept for the fluid...hehe.

A friend of mine has the same problem with the KVRs. He was complaining about the brakes squaeling, so I took a look at them. The first I noticed was that the rotor had pretty much no momentum after you spun it, i.e., it just stopped.

Anyhow, I got looking at the pads, and noticed they were right on the rotors. I checked the rotors again, and I saw that there was a discoloration through one part of it from over heating.

I had KVRs on my old Camaro, and they worked great. I told him to call KVR and see if they could tell him anything.

    Weird.

well, when I rotate them it literally stopped like I was lightly braking. And I felt and heard it when driving...and it's supposed to have a very slight drag anyway, but this is like brakes being applied. About to jack it up and spin them again, drove about 80 miles....I'm pretty sure it's a little better, but how much I don't know.

Anyone looking for new rear Hawk pads?? :D

I also had a very, very slight drag when I installed my KVR's and Hawk pads. It went away after a while. No biggie.

anyone with the KVR's and hawk pads, do you have squeeling at all?

i have KVR slotted and KVR pads, and they squeel a little bit when i get to about 10mph while stopping. it pisses me off...

pads that were that much shouldnt squeel

its the pad vibrating that causes this high frequency squeal. I had it for a day or two a week after install....but now it's gone, I just need to put some anti squeal goober on the pads, but I don't want to open her up again...lazy :D
