• Slotted/Cross Drilled Rotors Resurfacing?

I've been thinking about new rotors, but I've had some people tell me that you can't turn Slotted or Cross Drilled because of they way the resurfacing machine works. I guess its a little pin that goes around the rotor so if it gets stuck in one of the little holes or slots it will break the machine.

    Is this true?

It's not even worth getting them if you can only use them for the life of one set of pads?

Are you telling me you resurface your rotors after every pad change? I've only done it once and only did it cause I've never done it. You do it if you have pits or bumps. I changed my break pads 5 times or more and didn't touch the rotors. I've never heard of anyone resurfacing aftermarket rotors. If they did I guess the slots would get less deep. I have not seen the process so can't say if it's possible with drilled/slotted rotors.

I've always had my rotors turned when I get new pads.

The pads have always come with a little note inside that says the Manufacturer recomends it.

I didn't know this wasn't the norm...I guess I can save myself some money from now on.

Anyone else with aftermarket rotor experience?

your supposed to resurface the rotors every time you change your pads. It cuts down on squeeking and it will fix a warped rotor if its not SEVERLY warped. Ive never seen or turned an aftermarket rotor. Ive done a couple brake jobs on t/a's with slotted rotors and never turned those rotors. The resurfacing tool is just a big lathe that you bolt the rotor to then theres 2 bits 1 on each side of the rotor that takes a layer of metal off the rotor so the pad contacts NON glazed, pitted, cracked, or rusty surfaces.

I need to have my slotted rotors done. I was told that if I go to a speed shop they will tell me where i can do it.

Slotted rotors are slotted at a depth that is deeper than minimums. Cross-drilled rotors are counter-sunk at a depth that is deeper than minimums. You should turn your rotors EVERY time you change pads regardless of if their slotted, cross-drilled, factory or aftermarket. You will develop a warp if you don't. A warp will take out your ABS system, bearings and calipers if you don't take care of it. Warped rotors are annoying and dangerous as well.
