I want to buy either the Russels or Earls SS break line kit. I know the fronts will fit on my disks, but I have rear drums. Will they work on drums?

No, drum lines are hard steel already.Robert - owner www.FirebirdV6.com/CamaroV6.com

Re: Can Stainless Steel Brake Lines work on rear Drums?
YES! Sorry for reviving an old post. I just wanted to correct the answer to it since I was doing a search on any tips for installing.
For 93-97 (93, 94, 95, 96, and 97) Camaros and Firebirds with front disks and rear drums, three flexible lines can be replaced with teflon/stainless hoses. Two lines on the front, from the right and left calipers to the the right and left steel tubes respectively, and one line from the body to the axel shaft steel tubing. It's true that the drum cylinders are connected to hard lines, but both hard lines connect to a flexible line in the middle of the axel (otherwise the movement of the suspension would break the hard steel lines).
Russell once made a package for these cars, but for some reason stopped (why it would be that much trouble to at least offer it is beyond me considering you can custom build these lines, but I digress). You can still occasionally find these kits on ebay, part number is 692240, or RUS692240. I've tried several other vendors, many still list the part, but are out of stock.
If you are desperate, there are some generic kits avialable for these vehicles, but (IMHO) the braking system is one place where I wouldn't skimp, blown engines because of a cheap part is one problem, hitting a tree at 80mph because you wanted to save on a "performance" brake parts is another.Last edited by landj; 08-09-2010, 02:34 PM.
