• My dad is telling me I should get new shocks>>

He doesnt drive my car often so I dont know if his opinion counts.
The lowdown is my car has around 33,000 miles on it, not easy miles, we have LOTS of ruts and bumps and gravel roads and pot holes, it hasnt been easy on my poor car :(

I think he is under the impression that it should ride smooth, I like a tight stiff ride, but I think as my daily driver I dont realize when it's braking down in ride quality.

I'm up for changing it, But I'd like to upgrade at the same time. Any options? I'll do all 4 of course, I like to be able to swing turns and ramps with minimal body lean that sorta thing.

Check your tire pressures. Might be the key.

Do you know the part #? There are a few different shock options with the "heavy duty setting."

I keep up on that, (although I think 2 have a small leak)
I drove a Z28 once and that felt noticeable stiffer, I liked that.

The Bilstein shocks are going to be about $325 I'm thinking, are they worth it?

Also, can they work with my stock springs? how long do springs last?

Also, SLP has V8 take off springs which will be a little stiffer, are they worth it?

is there anything in the middle or should I just go for the Bilstein?

My mechanic is going to install them for me When I get my brakes fixed , if there are any places cheeper please share

Stick with your stock springs, they dont wear out and are the proper springrate for your car at it's stock height. Just get the Bilstien HDs all the way around, they will stiffen up the ride without making it really harsh and improve handling alot. They should last a long time too.

I went to my autoparts store, they had KYB, (never heard of them) they said they are comparable to bilsteins but they were expensive!

I'll probibly just order the Bilsteins cuz they are what I want and not much price difference.

Any place cheeper then that beemerparts.com? that place is better then any other but just wondering if anyone knew of something cheeper.

Chris, I installed the Bilsteins in my 95 and am very happy with them. They give good ride quality and good handling. They perform much better than stock. I bough mine from shox.com. They have excellent customer service. Just as my luck would be I had a problem with one of the front shocks I ordered and I called them up, they told me send the shock back to them and they would give me a refund, so I bought a new shock, they sent it to me, I installed it in the car and sent the defective one back for a refund.

Why are people recommending BMW parts companies when we have suppliers that cater specifically to V6 F-Bodies right in our backyard? We choose our site sponsors carefully, 99.99% of the parts your F-Body could ever need are carried by them.

For Bilsteins, you have two options: the regular F-Body set and the SLP F-Body set (made by Bilstein to SLP's specifications). I personally have the Bilstein SLP set and they are terrific! I have had them for five years now and they still perform good as new. The difference between the SLP set and the regular is the SLP's are a bit more streetable--not quite as aggressive. I opted for the SLP variant because with full Hotchkis sway bars and Eibach springs, my suspension was firm enough.

TByrne carries both variants of Bilsteins. Check their V6 Suspension section for details. $485.99 for the regular Bilsteins and $389.99 for the SLP Bilsteins.

But while you're swapping shocks, might as well swap springs too and make it a once-and-for-all job. Eibach Pro Kit is $229.00 from Thunder. The drawback (if you see this is a drawback) is that these will drop your ride about an inch. You have a 98 V6 so the part number for the Eibach Pro Kit is 3870.240.

If you want to stiffen your ride without lowering your car, GM 1LE springs should do just that. I personally am a fan of lowering, so I recommend Eibach all the way...

I have read the various install guides for replacing springs and shocks... It doesn't seem like too difficult of a job. Did you install yours yourself? I'll be giving a whack at installing my new Hotchkis and Bilsteins in the middle of March, and I wanted to have an opinion on the job I'm in for...
