I have the stock 16" chromes which have been on the car since I bought it new. I drive the car all year round including in snow and salt. I developed a rim leak, so I went to have it fixed. They told me that there is a lot of aluminum corrosion inside the wheel (probably all of them) and it has gotten under the chrome lips. The chrome is peeling where the tire mounts causing the rim to leak air. They ground the corrosion and loose chrome off and it seems ok, but he said if it happens again the rim would need to be refinished. The outside of the rims looks good barring a few chips and scratches, but otherwise they look very nice. All of this peeling is underneath where the tire mounts.
So after all that, my question is, is this normal and what can I do about it? Do I need to get them refinished or replace them altogether?
