  • Lowering Questions!!!!!

how many of you that have lowered your cars did NOT replace your shocks with aftermarket shocks? Is it possible to put on some lowering springs with stock shocks??? I heard that it is not possible but I dont see why that it is...if it is not possible why?
Also in a past post somebody told me about some brackets you need to install when you lower your car. Are these necessary to install when lowering your car? I believe they said they were to prevent your camber from getting so jacked that your wheels actually sit crooked. How many people have not installed these brackets after lowering your car and what was your results with your camber...crooked tires or not??? Thanks for all the help.

anything is possible, but some things just aren't recommended. If you wanna keep your stock shocks for the time being, get a Ground Control Coil-Over Kit. All this kit does is add an adjustable spring perch so that you can adjust the height at which the spring sits over the shock. Not bad, and it is able to go w/ any future spring/shock setup you may come up w/. the kit also comes w/ new springs to replace the stock ones. It's around 500 bucks. get this as well as hal shock, and you have a car that can ride low or high and have a pillow-like ride or a stiff autox setup. it's a cheap fix for the stock units, but if you don't have 1500 to burn on a great coil-over kit, this'll be just fine.

The brackets you are referring to is for the lower rear control arms. These help you get better traction, and when you lower a car, the angle at which they sit is altered and may not provide the car w/ adequate traction. to fix this, these brackets allow you to repostion the ends of it so the car can get more traction, or there are adjustable LCA's out there to fine tune how much traction is needed and for what conditions.

The thing about not having your rear wheels centered has to do w/ your panhard rod. when lowering the car, this rod pushes one side of the rear end out more and pulls the other in, an adjustable one re-centers the rear.

if you lower the car too much in the front end, the stock a-arms cannot adjust to the extremes that you will need to have it aligned, so new a-arms may be needed. there is also a unit called a K-member that connects both front lower a-arms together that if a aftermarket one were to be installed, would allow more camber adjustment for the new lowered suspension. as long as you don't lower the car more than 2 to 2 1/2 inches, you'll still be able to align your car.
