My money is that once you get in there, they find "other" problems. They tried to tell my wife that her whole brake system was shot once (It just needed to be bled). They're scam artists (at least the ones in my town are). I'll never take a vehicle to Midas. Ever.

Couldn't have said it better myself!
Do the brake pads yourself, you'll save money in the long run.

Its free for the pads, but they charge you labor everytime you get them replaced.

Labor is the most expensive part. I bet that $39.99 is plus labor.

If they're charging labor, then you're getting ripped off. Where I'm from, it's covered parts and labor.

It's my personal opinion that places like Midas buy pads so hard and abrasive that they never do wear out. Instead, they wear on your rotors, which conveniently _aren't_ covered.

Yet another vote for doing your own pads with something better. It's not too tough.
