You do NOT have to take the weight off the rear, infact taking the weight off made things alot harder than it should have been. Just throw it up on some ramps, unloosen the bottom and top bolt, the old shock will pop right out.
I uncompressed the new shock and when I took the weight off the rear I found the shock to it's fullest exstent was FAR to short.. I could get it in the top but not the bottom... So I put the weight back on the rear and threw it back on ramps and bolted the shock from the TOP bolt first and aligned it with the bottom. I found the now it was to long and overshot the bottom bolt, better than being too short though, I just pressed up and compressed it until I could get the bolt between the shock and the hole then hammared it in and bolted it up. The hand compression shouldn't be hard, I weigh at 135 - 140 LB's and I was able to do it without much sweat...
End result, No more fishtailing in the rain, No more bottoming out every bump I hit, Car hooks up and launches like never before...
You'll need a 14MM or 15MM bolt for the top (It was 14 for my stock ones and 15 for the new ones.) and a 21MM for the bottom, It also helps if you have a breaker bar due to so much limited room to manuever...
