• why do i have drum brakes?

my firebird's front wheels have the disc brakes, but the rear wheels have the drum brakes. why is this? it's a 97. i see old a$$ hondas (maybe mid 90's) with 4 wheel disc brakes, and older crap cars that always seem to have the 4 wheel disc brakes. based on this you would think since i have a newer sports car it would have 4 wheel disc brakes???

My 97 also had the drum/disc set up. I believe four wheel disc became standard in 98. Big difference from drum/disc to disc/disc. Much better stopping. It's expensive to upgrade, and you probably don't really need it unless you autocross or something like that.

Don't know exactly where you live in NJ, but if you don't live too far from Bristol PA, you may want to contact Contemporary Corvette at 215) 781-0202, and here is where they are located: http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp...submit=Get+Map
He sells the posi-disk rear for our f-bods at a great price.

V6 before 98 w/o Y87 == drums
Anything else (V8 93-02, v6 w/ Y87) have 4-wheel disc.
TECH ARCHIVE! All of this is severely and heavily documented in there

200 Dollars? I'd love to swap for a price like that...

Also with that place in Bristol...you said cheap but about how cheap would an entire new rear cost from them? I figured it would be better to have a ballpark figure before calling.

Has anyone felt a big difference in having rear disc brakes?

I may not like my rear drums that much....but they don't give off the dust my front discs do, and I kind of like that
