• ceramic, carbon-metallic, etc...what to do?

looking at a few other posts i've seen a lot of different brake pads mentioned. i'm relatively new to whole brake and suspension deal and i'm about to change mine and i dunno what would be best to get. i want them to perform of course but still be quiet and not leave so much brake dust. so far i've seen just regular brake pads, carbon-metallic, and ceramic. so what would be the best brake pad for the best price? i'm only looking for a set for the front.

Hawk HPS.
carbon-metallic are probably the lowest dust, but will make noise and aren't rotor friendly. I've used quite a few different pads, Hawk HPS are the best I've used so far. Great stopping power, pad life, low dust... excellent pads.

Not to flame you, but I had alot of brake dust when I had the hawks pads installed on my car years ago. Great braking with them, but they threw off crazy dust!
I like my ceramix pads. No noise, and better yet, no dust!

That is weird....
with stock pads, I'd have black rims in a week. I can go 3-4 weeks now and still have clean rims.

You could also try some satisfied pads from tirerack.

Hawk HPS pads are now a lot different than they were several years ago - they are supposedly very low dust now. I have a set sitting around waiting to install.

Hockeyman: were you using Hawk HP+ pads? They're more grippy and can take better temps than the HPS, but do dust and make noise.

I honestly don't remember. It's been quite a few years now, and my memory only recalls the past few days...sometimes less.

And you don't want too hard of pad or you will be going through rotors every time you change your pads too.

ceramics get my vote if you care about having no dust or noise. carbon metallics stop better but will throw more dust and make more noise. its a compromise really. ceramics i hear work better after you heat them up, but still uncertain if they offer the same grip as carbon metallics..
