  • my brakes squeek too, but...

.. i have new pads, all around, and my cousin who is a mechanic said my rotors are fine. he blasted my pads with air 5 days ago and the prob went away for a day or so, but then they started to squeek again. i got the pads from o'reiley, and they said that nowadays pads will do that... no asphestos (no s#it shurlock). so why is it that i dont really hear other newer cars with the same prob? i doubt they go heve them blased with air every couple a days. what should i do?

You might want to put antisqueal on the back of the pads, it sometimes helps with things like this.

What's antisquel? I got the same problem with brakes squeaking but there's nothing wrong with them.

im thinkin its excessive brake dust... so would drilled and/or slotted rotors fix the prob you think???

anti squeel is a can of stuff you put on your pads/rotors to help stop squeeling..
you can get it at most any auto parts store..

          LOLOL..

"im thinkin its excessive brake dust... so would drilled and/or slotted rotors fix the prob you think??? "

new rotors may fix it.. but it will also take care of that money in your wallet too..

I wouldent go down the new rotor road untill you atleast try getting them turned at a shop..

            It might be your pads.

I put new pads on, and mine started squeeking. So I took it all apart, used a wire brush and sanded all the mating surfaces down, and put some of that anti-squeel stuff on the mating surfaces. (In the auto stores here, it comes in a packet, but I have also seen it in a can) This did not fix the squeeling. I talked to a buddy that was working at a GM dealer, and he talked to all the mechanics and gave me 3 other brands of stuff to put on the mating surfaces to stop the squeeling.

Well, I took apart the brakes three more times, trying each brand. Every time my brakes just kept squeeling. So again I take it apart, and I lightly sand the pads friction surface, thinking that maybe it had glazed. Still squeeked. Finally I dished out the $80 bucks for a set of NAPA Ceramix brake pads, took the brakes apart for the 6th time, and installed thoes without any kind of anti-squeek junk, and haven't heard a sound out of them for over a year now.

            Good luck.

a lot of newer breaks squeel. its the type of pad or something. i know one of the drawbacks of the breakdust-less ones squeel a lot. or something like that.

mine only seem to squeak when they're dirty (after I go down a dirt road that's semi-dusty). After I wash the car, the squeaking seems to go away for a long time until I go down another dusty road.
