  • rear crossmember...repair, or replace?

    when i was rearended... my exhaust bent up my rear crossmember..


    on the estimate i just recieved.. it sayd REPAIR REAR CROSSMEMBER..


    wtf?! its not safe to replace something in suspension is it? better off replacing it, correct?

    You may be able to bend it back in place. But that totally depends on how and where it was tweaked at. The crossmember just supports a small amount of the transmission's weight and really only is there to keep it straight. It doesn't handle a lot of torque - it all gets passed further south. So its not a 'load bearing' piece of the driveline.

    However, being extremely cheap - I would just pull a straight one out of a wrecked F-body.

    $25 would be too much in my opinion.

      He said rear crossmember.

      Are you talking about something on the rear like the panhard rod or upper brace? Or are we talking transmission crossmembers here?

      Sometimes those estimate people don't know how to identify parts on RWD cars... :rolleyes:
