  • ?s about my take-off shocks I just received

Aside from UPS dropping the shocks off at the neighbor down the street, the shocks came to me OK. The box wasn't banged up and the shocks appear to be in OK shape. Some minor scrapes and some minor rust but def. still relatively new.

Since I don't know squat about shocks and will not be putting these on myself, I'm curious about two things.

    1) The front shocks. The gold disc "base" is off. Do I just pop this back into place?

    2) The rear shocks. I'm not sure if the nut they sent on is the one I'm supposed to use. The nut doesn't go down all the way to the threads...looks to have a blue washer in the nut preventing it from going down all the way (???).

    Dumb questions, I know...don't laugh guys. :(

#2) The nut is an elastic stop-nut (I worked a summer a place that made them :)

When you tighten down the nut, the washer will expand a bit around the bolt, and the pressure will keep it from coming loose.

One note on these: they aren't meant to be reused. Those of you that think, "oh, it'll still hold well," they lose about 3/4 of their holding power just from one trip on and off a bolt. They're cheap, can be found in any hardware store, get new ones.

If you're wondering about the color, that's just manufacturer's branding. MacLean-ESNA's tradmark color was red. Anyone can make plain white ones.
