Quick question. Anyone ever run in to problems running a 275/40 18" tire in the rear on a 4th gen with drum brakes in the back? I dont care about the speedo being off by 2%, I just dont want the **** messing up. The wheels are factory GM 1999 Corvette 5 spokes.. They got like a stock 61mm offset in the rear or something like that.

I have the Y2K C5 wheels on mine with those tires and they are fine.

OK - So I'm getting the tires ordered tomorrow. No last words about a 275-40-18" not fitting?

nice choice of wheels. i put those on my car recently and had problems with the wheel rubbing even after hammering like a mad man. 1/4 spacers fixed the problem.

you would be safer going with a 285/35/18 tire. Almost 1" less in tire height.

I have 98 Vette wheels on my car. I have no rubbing out back, even with lowered suspension too. And they are the stock vette 275/40/18 tire size.

remeber that 275/40R18s are taller than stock by a good margin and will throw off your speedo considerably.

Only 3% faster -- not much at all. So when I'm doing 100 I'll actually be doing 103.. haha

P275/35R18 = 79mph, this is what your gauge reads
                        P275/40R18 = 83mph, what you're actually doing

IMO thats a lot. 4mph off? Think about that... Thats 5% off. Meaning when your gauge cluster reads 60,000 miles, you've actually gone 63000.

Don't do that, its just stupid.
