I will be purchasing tires for my 18x8.5 inch wheels soon and would like to know what size i could use. 245/40/18 seem to be the most common route, but i was thinking about something a little wider that would retain the stock speedometer readings. any help would be much appreciated.

I run the 245/40's. Tread width is 9" if I remember right. You can go with a 275/35 or a 285/35, and be around a 10-10.5" tread width. You can look up some performance tires on tirerack and get an idea on the dimensions for these sizes.

the good year Eagle F1 GS-D3 ARE REALLY GOOD (i have read every review on them and many poeple like them.

The 712 series tire is a good tire. BUT I have ordered the new Kumho ASX tires for my car because they have a more weather-friendly tread design if you use your car as a daily driver like mine. Instead of having a single rain channel the ASX tire has a dual channel design to move more water for better driving in the rain and it still is an ultra-high performance tire. You may want to check those out. They are brand new so nobody really has any test results on them.Mustangs..
