i'm looking for some good drag radials. i will have PROBABLY a 3800 stall torque converter soon and will probably need all the traction i can get. apparently, the bmr lca's are what i will be getting, but i need some good radials. will 255/50 suffice? or do you guys have any other suggestions? i will have these tires on an extra pair of stock rims, so i think 255 will the the widest i can go. i need some radials at 255 that will let me stall 3000 rpms+ without loss of traction. thx.

I run nitto drag radials 245 50 16's
I run them on the street as my daily driver tire.
I drive from jersey to vermont, maryland, new york basically everywhere on them.
They are my n/a track tire.
Lower them to 20 psi, heat them up, and launch like a mo fo.
I'm really happy with them.
I tried bf's 255 50 16's but they are much stickier and flick up rocks at the car and stuff gets stuck in them.

Personally, if you're going with tires that your going to put away for strictly racing, I'd go with 275's. I hear a lot of great things about the Nitto 555R's as well. I'm not sure if they make 275 but I run 255's as my regular driving tires. I don't have a posi and I have 3.08's so I just roast em like a Thanksgiving turkey. I have major traction problems with them on the street. The track is a little better. I don't know if there would be a reason to not run 275's but you figure a bigger patch area means more contact, therefor mor traction .....etc I don't know, I wouldn't put all that money into tires and only get 255's, get atleast 275's, shoot, maybe even 315's but dought Nitto makes that size. I don't know if 315 would even fit a 9.5 rim. That's something I would like to know.

the "street legal" slick.
m/t makes them.
the nittos are made out of a different grade of rubber which is harder. it will grip hard but if you can find anything else for a similar price go for it.
i think the nitto may last longer but i didnt like them enough. they didnt hold power that well so i got rid of them.

It is made out of harder rubber but Nitto's will last alot longer as a daily driver tire because of this.

Bf goodrich's tires are more sticky, but don't last as long as nittos. If they are just for the track get the 255 bfs. They are also cheiper than nitto. I had nittos, because I used them all the time, but if I had another set of rims I would have gotten bfs. Nitto doesn't make 255,only bf goodrich. It shouldn't be too wideold car- 2000 firebird 14.94<br />new car- 2002 grand prix gtp 13.410

Nitto does make a 255 tire (NT-555 Extreme ZR) but not in a drag radial. 255/40 and 255/45.
Make sure you remember when Nitto is spoken here they are talking about the Drag Radials NT-555R which is completely different that the Nittos for street like the NT-450. But if I drop the psi to 16 and heat them up then I dead hook and scare myself :D

Ahh, thank you James. Something that I have missed after all these years. I knew those pictures of drag cars with those huge slicks wrinckling was there for a reason.
