About a week ago i curbed my firebird pretty hard at about 40 mph. My right wheel hit the curb dead on. now my steering wheel points to the left when i am driving straight and my wheels both toe out while i drive causing them to constanly squeak. i went to my mechanic and he said that my hub bearings were loose and need to be replaced before he can do an allignment.
. :( I have no idea what these even are let alone how expensive they would be to replace. Does anyone know what a hub bearing is or how much i can get new ones for?
Hey, you posted in the general tech already. Go look at my post there. You didn't mention that you hit it DEAD on and that it's toed out like that. Your tie rod is prolly messed up. Jack up the car and look at your tie rods. Usually when a car is hit like that suspension components needs to get replaced as well, since suspension geometry is very sensitive. The alignment guy who told you to change the bearing before he can align the vehicle can't be trusted. If the wheels are toed out like that, changing the bearings isn't going to fix the alignment. If you have comprehensive insurance, take it to the dealer. The insurance will cover the additional labor rate compare to the cheapo shops and you will be given OEM parts, no used or aftermarket. And check your rental car policy.
