  • Those with a STB step on in

Mine keeps touching the alternator now and it makes a rattling sound. I adjusted ti but that still didn't help. WTF?

    BTW it's a Hotchikis STB.

You may have to custom bend (bang the hell outta) the area they are touching. I really don't know of any way either the alt or stb can be adjusted.

Is it possible you got the one for the LS1??? :(

Is it new or did this problem develop over time?

problem developed over time. It's also sporadic...it'll disappear for days and then all of a sudden it'll start again. I'm totally

BTW it's the hotchikis STB...it looks like this

hey dude, this may be your problem...

Notice the "LS1" in that addy?

the LS1 stb (or the LT1 for that matter) will not fit on V6 cars.

Ok, let's think here. It wasn't here at the start, so it wasn't like it was the wrong part. I see three possibilities:

                    1) The STB itself has become misaligned and bumps the alt

                    2) The engine/alt has moved to the point where it contacts the STB (which is in the right place)

                    3) The suspension (shock towers themselves) have moved, and the STB moved with it to contact the alt.

99Camaro: looks like you might have to do some measuring or other work to see what's shifted. If I was to place a WAG, I'd say to look at the shock tower base plate and bolts the brace mounts to - if they've tilted somehow, they might cant the brace into the alt. Did you install the brace with a torque wrench? I don't know if overtorquing could deform the metal up there a bit.

Did you install the spacers under the STB brackets? If not, that would tip the cross bar toward the alternator.
