  • Whats wrong with my brakes????

My brakes don't seem to be stopping too well latley. I had to do an emergency stop..they didnt even lock up, and I had my foot burried into the firewall. Think I have bad lines...are messed up rotors? I kno the pads are fine I replaced them a while back...Ohh yeah, whenever it rains out, my rotors get like..a layer of rust on them. Is this normal? Thanks.

When was the last time you changed Brake fluid. Let me guess....never. You should change brake fluid about every 2 years at normal driving. Every year if a lot of hard driving is done.

Try changing your brake fluid. You may also need pads, give them a look over.
It's normal for the rotors to get rust on them during the rain. It has to do with the fact that they get hot and the kind of surface they are.

they arent supposed to lock up... hence the anti-lock braking system ;)

Bleed the system and continually filling the master cylinder up so you don't suck air into the brake lines. Flush the system completely with new brake fluid (dot 3), and if your brake problems persist, get the pads replaced.
I have never heard of brake fluid going bad except when left exposed to high moisture areas. I don't know what happens to it, I just know that the brake fluid collects moisture from the air, and it's not good for it.

Would steel lines help at all?

Don't do steel lines (my opinion).

For the brake rotors, are our bearings inside the rotor housing? Or is it separate?

Seperate. The bearings are sealed inside where the spindle is located.
Even the lug studs are not attached to the rotors.

Why? Not giving you a hard time, just interested in knowing your opinion.

It becomes compressible when moisture gets in.
