  • Quick tire question

    Just curious...

When you swith from 235 55 16 to 245 50 16, why do you need to have the tire have a smaller profile?

    Is it for clearance reasons?

To keep about the same sidewall height. Otherwise the slop in the taller sidewall would cancel out any handling gain of the wider tread.

A lower sidewall height might be even better, but it would be more twitchy over road irregularities, ride harder, you'd lose load capacity, and the speedo would change.
