I think it's a combination of the engine and the fact that the V8s have more standard options like LSD, bigger sway bars, leather, monsoon stereos, etc etc. Plus the TA hatch weighs more than ours. Oh and the exhaust system on newer V8s have dual cats and the overall piping is larger. Just to name a few things...

There is 100lbs difference between a V8 and V6 up front. How is this a suspension question?

They don't weight much more than us on average. There are lots of little things, but nothing that really makes a huge difference. A tank of gas could make the difference in one being lighter or heavier than the other.

Like said earlier options on a car make a differnce...

my 94 was stripped probably the most basic 4th gen you coudl ever buy...

weighed 3160 with onoy the spare and jack removed, on low gas.

on average was about 3200 without jack and spare.

Things add up, on v8s... they ahve standard power windows, the exhaust is bigger, I know frist hand a open diff drum rear is like 40 lbs. lighter then a full lt1 rear with brakes.

LS1's have bigger sway bars, 17inch rims usually, T56 is heavier then a T5, Leather interior probably weighs more, traction control, monsoon system, power seats, power windows, locks, ground effects, These are things that I dont have so I am comparing..
