The difference is less than 100 lbs.

The engine's a touch heavier, the interior maybe a bit. But it's not much.

well, either way, the Z feels a LOT heavier than just 100 lbs. it felt like 400. thing cornered good, just felt real heavy.

Uhm. Guys with LS1s and LT1s down in Texas weigh in at 3600-3900 pounds because of OPTIONS. The weight specs you are seeing are V8 cars with NO options. Do you know HOW rare that is?

the engine in the v8 is more toward the front of the car (duh, it is longer). this changes the balance/handling somewhat.

Very. In fact, a friend of mine is selling his 97 black Z28, no leather, no power windows, no power door locks, no t-tops, just a six-speed, and an LT1, for $17,000 Canadian dollars. $3000 aftermarket stereo and alarm, only 55,000 kilometres on it too... very low mileage car, in other words.

And I doubt he'll get what he wants for it. As much as it is a purely 'go fast' car, no one wants to buy a fourth gen with no options for that kind of money. And that is exactly why they're so rare. Terrible resale without options.

My car is an LT1 car with an auto.
Only weight reduction is the exhuast and I removed the radio and added a block off plate.
Edit:oops sorry forgot, I also removed the A/C compressor and condensor.
It has 4 AFS 17x11 wheels, and Kumho Victoracers. This wheel tire combo is VERY heavy, MUCH heavier than stock wheel/tire combos.

I have every option except T-tops and leather.

With a full tank.....3,375lbs, on a certified corner weighting scale.

"the ls1 may only be 100lbs heavier but its all in the front." (chas)

                        But - "LS1 weighs 14 more pounds then a L36"

chas is still right. The LS1 may only be a touch heavier, but it's also set farther forward. So most/all of the extra 100 lbs _is_ on the front wheels.

people get excited about moving the battery to the back for better weight distribution. most batteries are quite a bit less than 100 lbs.

on the topic of the 4l60e -- its essentially the same. a different bell housing and bigger torque convertor. not much heavier.

yet it is different, and would not line up at all, nor work with a new bell housing......

they are a LOT heavier. i was driving an auto 93 Z28 yesterday, and my car is a stick 3.8. both cars were camaros. the Z felt a LOT heavier, driving, in the corners, everything. 100lbs of difference my ***.
a 93 Z28 doesnt have an all aluminum LS1, they are iron LT1's, im sure an LS1 is a lot lighter than that....
